Description
The Art Museum of West Virginia University and the WVU Program for Native American Studies welcome Marie Watt as a visiting artist and the 2022 Peace Tree honored guest.
Marie Watt is an American artist and citizen of the Seneca Nation with German-Scot ancestry. Her interdisciplinary work draws from history, biography, Iroquois protofeminism, and Indigenous teachings; in it, she explores the intersection of history, community, and storytelling. Through collaborative actions she instigates multigenerational and cross-disciplinary conversations that might create a lens and conversation for understanding connectedness to place, one another, and the universe.
Storywork: The Prints of Marie Watt is on display at the Art Museum of West Virginia University through December 11, 2022.
This is a hybrid event and is available via livestream. Presented in collaboration with WVU Program for Native American Studies and with support from the Judith Gold Stitzel Museum Education Fund.
